1 Chronicles 3-4
Daily Devotional from 1 Chronicles 4--
Verse 10
Jabez called on the God of Israel
The name Jabez means pain. Apparently, his mother wanted her son to have a constant reminder that he caused her pain on the day of his birth. How is that for a stigma!?
“You cause pain.”
“You make me sad.”
“You will never bring joy to anyone’s life.”
Most of us know about the devastating effects our words can have on a young child. We are like wet cement in the formative stages of life, and whatever stamp we receive can have irreversible effects. But somehow Jabez refused the label assigned to him and became a very honorable man.
How did he do it? He called on the God of Israel.
If you too want to refuse the labels given to you in childhood, you likely won’t do it on your own. Only God can break the mold and provide you with a new identity. So, do yourself a favor and call on him today.
