Ecclesiastes 7-9
Daily Devotional from Ecclesiastes 7--
Verse 4
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
When I was younger, I hadn’t experienced much in life, especially when it came to mourning and grief. When someone was in grief, pain, or mourning, I didn’t have much to say that was helpful--even though all I wanted was to help.
That is until I experienced my own grief and loss.
There is something about suffering, mourning, and grief that provides a new perspective in life. We see the world as it is instead of through rose-colored glasses. Once I experienced my own grief and mourning, I began to recognize the folly of my former way of thinking and version of “helping” -- which led to humility. And as we might have already recognized, humility is the first step to gaining wisdom.
Let yourself mourn and grieve (whatever it may be-- a person, a relationship, a way of life, etc.) Wisdom is found on the other side.
