Isaiah 7-9
Daily Devotional from Isaiah 9--
Verse 2
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
Imagine for a minute that you were lost in a cave. Everything is dark, you can’t see what’s in front of you. At any moment, death is coming. But something catches your eye, a light source. Hope of escaping is present and real. Strength is summoned, courage is found--because that light means that rescue is imminent.
Doesn’t this verse just resound with hope? Isaiah had been talking to his fellow Israelites about captivity and destruction, deep darkness in their present situation, but in the midst of the darkness, Isaiah’s words were filled with hope of deliverance. Hope of a messiah. A light in the cave.
For whatever darkness you’re walking through, hold onto the hope of the Prince of Peace, the Mighty God, the Wonderful Counselor, and Everlasting Father. He has brought rescue, peace, atonement, and hope.
