Ezekiel 15-16

Daily Devotional from Ezekiel 16—

Verses 62 and 63
I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the Lord, that you may remember and be confounded, and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I atone for you for all that you have done, declares the Lord God.

After all this unfaithfulness, God still atones for Israel. After they go chasing idols God forgives them. We are the same. We turned our back on God but Jesus atoned for us. He paid our penalty. This is a weighty thing Jesus did. I think this passage shows the weight of our sin: we don't deserve to speak again, we deserve to feel ashamed, honestly, we deserve eternity in hell.

But Jesus took it one step further and brought us close to God again, He takes our shame, He became sin for us. Your sins are forgiven and even forgotten, don't give sin a place to reign in your heart. Sin has no right. Sin lost its power at Calvary and death itself was silenced once Jesus rose from the tomb. Give Him thanks today, take time to appreciate this great gift of salvation and new life, and draw closer to the one who gave you life.
