Jonah
Daily Devotional from Jonah 4--
Verse 2
I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.
It’s funny – the very thing we love about God can be the very thing we hate about him.
He’s gracious.
We love it until he showers our enemies. We celebrate it until he messes with justice.
Jonah was incensed. How can God be so soft, so relenting? These people don’t deserve this. But guess what? No one does, and that includes the very best. And no one gets overlooked, and that includes the very worst.
I know it’s discombobulating, but God’s grace is the most cherished and despised thing in the entire universe. So, how you respond to this says a lot about the direction you’re going. The last thing we want to do is be at cross purposes with the grace of God.
