Luke 22
Daily Devotional from Luke 22--
Verses 13-15
And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.”
Passover is a Jewish holiday celebrating the departure of the Jewish nation from slavery in Egypt. Specifically, it commemorates the time when the destroyer sent to take the lives of the first-born in Egypt, passed over the Jewish houses that had brushed the blood of the sacrificial lamb on their doorposts.
This desire of Jesus in the verse above holds particular significance. He wanted to use His Last Supper with His disciples to establish Communion - a time of regular remembrance highlighting the fact that He is the sacrificial Lamb. His blood was spilled for all mankind, and judgment again passes over all those who apply His blood to atone for the sin in their lives.
