Galatians 5
Daily Devotional from Galatians 5--
Verse 2 (CSB)
Take note! I, Paul, am telling you that if you get yourselves circumcised, Christ will not benefit you at all.
During this time, there were Jewish leaders who were coming into the Galatian Church and telling believers that they had to get circumcised in order to be truly saved—without circumcision, their salvation wasn’t in full effect.
Sometimes we get similar ideas. If we don’t act a certain way, or do certain things, or obey enough rules, we aren’t truly saved. But, Paul makes clear here—if we are more focused on what WE do for our salvation—then Jesus is no benefit to us.
Salvation comes from Jesus alone. There is nothing we can do to earn it. No amount of obedience will make us worthy of it—because it is a gift to us—as we are, right now.
And the evidence of our salvation will come out in our renewed countenance of peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, (etc.,) and in our love of those around us.
