2 Timothy 1

Daily Devotional from 2 Timothy 1—

Verse 7
God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].  AMP

I love the descriptiveness of the Amplified Version.  It reminds me I don’t have to be timid or shy or cowardly, and I don’t have to fear, because God gave us gifts to overcome those defeating characteristics.

When I am tempted to say “God, I’m afraid”, I recall the words of Rick Renner who said, “God has given you a mind that has been delivered, rescued, revised, salvaged, protected, and brought into a place of safety and security that is no longer affected by illogical, unfounded, and absurd thoughts.”

My fearful thoughts that are illogical, unfounded, and absurd fade away when I remind myself of God’s promise of power, love, and a sound mind.  Accept His gift of dynamite power, His gift of love without measure, and a mind that is controlled by His Words of life.
