2 Peter 1
Daily Devotional from 2 Peter 1—
Verses 4-7
…he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature...make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
We have become partakers in the “divine nature”. We are no longer held captive by worldly corruption! Instead, by the power at work within us by the Holy Spirit, we can become increasingly like Jesus. This passage shows us where to place our efforts to strengthen our faith. We are to add virtue, knowledge, etc., more and more until his return. These qualities build one upon the other, resulting in effectiveness and fruitfulness. Let us help one another as we pursue these qualities. In so doing, we will learn to live pure lives, gain wisdom, become steady and patient. Brotherly affection will grow in our community and our love will spill out to those who need Jesus so desperately.
